The present-day Gasthaus L\u00f6wen was first mentioned in 1460 as the house “Zum Wasservogel”.<\/p>\n

Through the centuries, it was a typical craftsmen’s house. Between 1789 and 1810, Michael Eckstein briefly operated a “Kranzwirtschaft” here (a predecessor of today’s seasonal wine taverns known as “Strau\u00dfenwirtschaften”). Afterwards, it was the home of hatters and shoemakers, before the M\u00fcnster sexton (Me\u00dfmer) Michael Hauser moved in in 1829. Between 1845 and 1879, it belonged to the cooper family Meier and temporarily housed the bookstore of Gustav B\u00fchler, followed by the grocery store of Karl Wangler.<\/p>\n

In 1880, the era of the innkeeping began with Dominik M\u00fcller, who was also a coppersmith.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In 1904, it initially operated under the name Gasthaus “Zum Kamel”, before being renamed “L\u00f6wenbr\u00e4ust\u00fcble” in 1928 and finally “Gasthaus Zum L\u00f6wen” in 1931. Since 1941, the inn has also offered some hotel rooms to its guests.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For many years, L\u00f6wen was the only inn in the city center offering warm meals after midnight \u2013 the pork knuckles are still well known today \u2013 and especially many artists and actors have used and continue to use this offer after their performances and concerts.<\/p>\n
